Days after Davao blast, bomb scare hits schools, Makati City Hall

Less than a week after the deadly bombing of a night market in Davao City, several schools and even the Makati City Hall received bomb threats on Tuesday, causing panic among the people.

The Makati City Hall received a bomb scare before 10 a.m. which forced government employees to evacuate.

A report from Maki Pulido on "24 Oras" said an unidentified caller informed an employee that a bomb was planted within the city hall's premises.

The Makati police cleared the city hall after an hour of inspection and called the threat a hoax.

Meanwhile, classes in Don Alejando Roces Science Technology High School in Quezon City were disrupted in the afternoon also due to a bomb scare.

Students' parents rushed to the school due to a Facebook message that said a bomb will explode at the school around 2 p.m.

The students were eventially dismissed from school while the QC Police Bomb Squad quickly responded and found no bomb.

"Paano kung totoo? Hindi sayang yung isang araw na pauwiin nila yung mga bata. Hindi sayang na pauwiin nila na mawala yung stress ng mga parents," Grace Jao, a parent, said.

Other schools that also received bomb threats within the day are:

Cavite State University
Bulacan State University
Sta. Ana Elementary School in Davao City
College of San Benildo-Rizal in Antipolo City
Centro Escolar University

Police officials said although being extra cautious is recommended, the public should not always believe what they read on social media and text messages.

The report quoted PNP chief Director General Ronald Dela Rosa as appealing to the public to refrain from forwarding unverified messages and should instead stay on alert.

The entire Philippines is currently under the state of lawless violence, which President Rodrigo Duterte declared in light of the Davao City bombing that killed 14 people and injured over 60 others. —Joseph Tristan Roxas/KBK, GMA News
